According to a study issued by the country's football association on Thursday, the coronavirus epidemic has caused earnings in Italian professional football to plummet by one billion euros ($1.17 billion).
According to the study, overall losses in the professional game more than quadrupled from 412 million euros at the end of the 2018/19 fiscal year to 878 million euros the next year.
"Overall, during the first two seasons affected by Covid-19 (2019/20 and 2020/21), it is estimated that professional football lost around one billion euros in revenue," said ReportCalcio (Football Report) which was carried out by the FIGC with accounting firm PwC and research agency AREL.
