Samuel Kalu Joins Botev Plovdiv to Revive Career

Published on: 24 September 2025

Nigeria’s Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu has completed a move to Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv, aiming to reignite his career after years disrupted by injuries, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.

The 26-year-old, once hailed as one of Nigeria’s brightest attacking prospects, built his reputation on flair, pace, and technical ability. However, repeated injury setbacks stalled his rise and limited his impact in recent seasons.

Kalu has previously featured for several European clubs, including Gent in Belgium, Bordeaux in France, and most recently FC Zurich in Switzerland. His time in Zurich was hampered by fitness struggles, and following his departure, he spent months unattached before sealing this latest move.

Plovdiv confirmed the winger’s arrival on Monday, signing him as a free agent. The transfer presents Kalu with an opportunity to rediscover form and make his mark in the Bulgarian First League.

For Kalu, this new chapter could prove crucial as he seeks to revive his career trajectory and push for a return to the Super Eagles setup ahead of upcoming international tournaments.
