Samuel Kalu forced due to injury as Ekong made late cameo

Watford’s first outing of 2023 yielded a stunning late victory at Norwich City, with an injury-plagued Hornets side ending a run of successive defeats with a 1-0 win courtesy of a dramatic Vakoun Bayo late winner.

The result however came with a bitter sweet experience as Super Eagles forward Samuel Kalu could only play half an hour before being forced off in the halftime due to injury.

The Nigeria international has struggled to make a mark in the team. Kalu has made just twelve appearances for Watford since he joined in January last year.

Kalu was replaced by Bayo, the eventual match winner. The injury could be increasing Bilic’s list to 11 or even 12, considering Christian Kabasela was forced off as well after complaining of his tie.

Meanwhile Williams Troost-Ekong again was brought on in the 83rd minute to replace Kabasela who after trying to chase a Norwich player fell to ground holding his tie.

Although, three points in East Anglia lifts Watford back into the play-off places after 26 Sky Bet Championship matches, but the injury list could get the hands of the manager tied.
