Samuel Chukwueze was awarded a rating of six out of 10 after helping AC Milan recover from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Lazio in Saturday’s Serie A meeting.
The Nigeria international started for Ruben Amorim and played the full 90 minutes as Milan extended their unbeaten start to the campaign.
Sempre Milan praised Chukwueze’s work on the flank, although it noted that his final contribution and defensive tracking could have been stronger.
“Chukwueze caused some issues for Lazio on the flank. That said, the end product could have been better, especially in the first half, and the tracking back was far from brilliant on the first goal,” the outlet said in its assessment.
Lazio made the stronger start and were two goals ahead by half-time. Matteo Cancellieri opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Tijjani Noslin doubled the advantage four minutes before the interval.
Milan made three substitutions at the break, including Christian Pulisic and Diego Moreira, and improved significantly in the second half.
Moreira reduced the deficit in the 65th minute with a volley from a cross by Pulisic. He completed the comeback two minutes later with a strike from the edge of the area, securing a point for the visitors.
The result ended Lazio’s perfect start, with the club dropping points for the first time this season. Lazio moved on to 10 points, while Milan remained unbeaten on eight points.
Chukwueze thriving in Amorim’s system
Chukwueze’s latest appearance adds to the positive start he has made under Amorim at AC Milan this season.
Amorim became Milan coach in 2026 after his spell at Manchester United and quickly made clear that Chukwueze would remain part of his plans. The winger’s future had been uncertain after his loan spell at Fulham.
The Portuguese manager has placed particular value on Chukwueze’s ability in one-on-one situations, his pace and his versatility. He has mainly used the Nigerian in a wing-back role within a 3-4-2-1 formation or a similar system, rather than in Chukwueze’s more familiar position as an attacking winger.
Chukwueze has welcomed the manager’s confidence and coaching, saying Amorim gave him a genuine opportunity after his loan spell. He has also said he is working hard to adapt to the demands of the role and make the most of that chance.
Amorim has defended the decision to use Chukwueze as a wing-back, stressing the importance of mentality and character rather than focusing solely on a player’s defensive background.
The Nigerian’s growing involvement represents a significant revival at San Siro after he previously struggled to secure regular playing time. His early performances under Amorim suggest he is becoming an important part of Milan’s plans.
