Nigeria international Salim Fago Lawal has completed a move to Czech First Division side Viktoria Plzen, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract after leaving Croatian club NK Istra, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The 23-year-old forward arrives in the Czech Republic following an impressive spell in Croatia, where he registered 15 goals and two assists across all competitions, establishing himself as one of the standout young attackers in the league.

Speaking to Viktoria Plzen’s official website, Lawal expressed his excitement about the move and his ambition to make an immediate impact.

“I know Viktoria primarily from their performances in European competitions, where the club has achieved great results over a long period,” Lawal said. “This offer really interested me. I see it as a step forward in my career, and I want to help the club as much as possible.”

The Super Eagles forward also believes his recent international experience has prepared him well for the challenge ahead.

“Considering that I was with the national team at the Africa Cup of Nations, I feel well prepared and fully available to the coaches immediately. I am really looking forward to my first training session and meeting my new teammates,” he added.

Viktoria Plzen sporting director Martin Vozábal explained the club’s decision to bring in Lawal, noting that the transfer was part of efforts to strengthen their attacking options.

“After Rafiu Durosinmi left, we wanted to increase competition in our offensive line, and that has been achieved with the arrival of Salim Fago Lawal,” Vozábal said.

“We have monitored him closely in the Croatian league. He is a fast, dynamic player who can operate both as a striker and on the wing. I am pleased that we have completed the transfer and can count on him ahead of the weekend’s league opener.”
