Rivers United Fall At El-Kanemi While Heartland Boost Survival Chances

Rivers United missed the chance to close the gap on Nigeria Professional Football League leaders Enugu Rangers following  a 1-0 defeat against El-Kanemi Warriors in a  matchday 30 fixture in Maiduguri Today. 

Micheal Ohanachom scored the winning goal in the 61st minute to preserve the hosts' unbeaten run at home in the NPFL this season.

In Akure, Sunshine Stars continued their push  for a continental ticket with a 2-0 home win against Niger Tornadoes.

The Owena Waves took the lead in the 46th minute through Michael Egbeta. Kadiri Samad headed home the second for Solomon Ogbeide's men five minutes after the break.

Tornadoes are the only side yet to pick a point on the road in the league. At the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos, Plateau United ended FC IfeanyiUbah's seven-game unbeaten run by inflicting a 2-0 defeat on the Anambra Warriors.

Kabiru Umar put the home side ahead in the 13th minute.

Anayo Ogbonayo doubled Plateau United's lead five minutes before the break.

Heartland boosted their survival hopes with a slim 1-0 win against Nasarawa United at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri. Chidiebere Ajoku scored the decisive goal in the 35th minute. Abia Warriors and Akwa United played out a barren draw in Umuahia.
