The captain of Rivers United FC Festus Austin has promised to lead the club to triumph in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

In an event held to announce the redemption of 20,000 dollars promised the team by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, for winning the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title last season, an elated Festus Austin thanked the Governor for his unwavering support and benevolence towards the team.

While briefing the media, an overjoyed captain seized the opportunity to promise more hardwork and commitment from the players and the CAF Confederation Cup title.

“I am overwhelmed today, I couldn’t believe it, it’s just like a dream that came true. As you can see today we are very happy seeing our able Governor, the number one supporter of Rivers United, redeem his promise giving us 20,000 dollars. I just want to say a big thank you to His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike, we love you and will continue to do more for this team. I promise you we are going for the CAF Confederation Cup and we are going to get it.”

Rivers United won the NPFL title last season in style and is the only surviving Nigerian representative out of four clubs on the continent this season. The Pride of Rivers have been drawn in Group B of the CAF Confederation Cup against Côte d’Ivoire’s Asec Mimosas, Motema Pembe of DR Congo and Congo Brazzaville-based Diables Noirs.
