Rio 2016: Dream Team VI Still In Limbo In Atlanta

Published on: 02 August 2016

Nigeria’s U-23 male team, Dream Team VI, training in Atlanta, USA for the forthcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Jenairo, Brazil, could not jet out of their training base yesterday to Brazil ahead of their opening match against Japan on Friday, August 5, 2016.

It is not yet certain whether the team will travel out of Atlanta for Brazil today, if the reports from the team’s camp are anything to go by.

“Top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are running around to ensure the team finally leaves on Tuesday (today). They have been at the Ministry of Youth & Sports Development trying to make sure everything about their ticketing and departure is sorted out today (yesterday) latest,” source close to the team and the NFF said.

The team was originally scheduled to fly out of the USA for Rio last Friday, but could not, as their tickets were not ready. Again, on Sunday, the NFF announced on Sunday that the team would depart for Rio yesterday (Monday) ahead of their first match with Japan.  Sweden and Colombia are the other teams in their qualifying group.
