Right-calf discomfort explained Rodri’s half-time departure for Barcelona

Published on: 04 November 2026

Rodri was taken off at half-time during Barcelona’s Champions League match against Aston Villa after feeling discomfort in his right calf, according to Managing Barca, which cited Spanish media reports.

The 30-year-old midfielder was replaced by Marc Bernal before the second half began. The decision meant Hansi-Dieter Flick had to withdraw Barcelona’s star defensive midfielder because of the physical problem.

Rodri’s absence did not prevent Barcelona from extending their advantage. Raphinha scored in the 52nd minute to make it 2-0, before the Brazilian completed his brace in the 64th minute to put the result beyond doubt at 3-0.
