Rennes seek sixth straight home win against unbeaten Olympiakos

Two unbeaten sides meet in the Europa League on Wednesday as Rennes host Olympiakos at Roazhon Park on matchday four, with the French club aiming to strengthen their position in the competition.

Rennes sit 13th after drawing 2-2 at Juventus, while Olympiakos are fifth, four points ahead, following a 1-0 home victory over Sparta Prague.

Franck Haise’s side have shown contrasting form at home and away in 2026-27, both in Ligue 1 and in Europe. At Roazhon Park, however, Rennes have been outstanding. They are unbeaten there this season and will be seeking a sixth successive home win.

A victory would also give them consecutive home wins in the group stage of this competition for the first time since 2023. Consistency has been harder to find elsewhere, with Rennes having recorded back-to-back victories in official matches only once since September.

Their defensive record is a concern. Rennes have conceded 11 goals across their past four competitive games, including a 5-2 Ligue 1 defeat by Nice last weekend. They do have a perfect record against Greek clubs in the Europa League, conceding just once in each of their meetings with them.

Rennes to win is priced at 2.08, while Boulaye Dia to be decisive is 2.15 and Adrien Thomasson to be decisive is 3.10.

Olympiakos have responded strongly after missing out on the Champions League. They were eliminated 2-1 on aggregate by NEC Nijmegen after surrendering an advantage, but have since lost only one of their past 15 official matches and travel to France on a run of nine consecutive victories.

Imanol Alguacil’s team have won their last five away games in all competitions. Their only defeat on the road this season was a 2-1 loss at NEC Nijmegen in a Champions League qualifying round.

Olympiakos are one of five teams with a 100% record in the league phase of this competition before matchday four. They have also avoided defeat in their last 10 Europa League group-stage matches. Since a 3-1 loss at AC Milan in 2018, they have not lost away in this competition’s league phase after scoring first.

The Greek side have lost three of their four Europa League meetings with French clubs, although their most recent trip to France brought a 1-0 win against Marseille at Stade Velodrome on matchday two.

Rennes’ Europa League form is NVN, with their overall form VVDNVD. Olympiakos have won all three of their Europa League matches and their last six in all competitions.

Ligue 1 top scorer Esteban Lepaul is expected to miss out while recovering from an ankle sprain. First-choice goalkeeper Brice Samba is doubtful with a leg injury. Musa Al-Taamari and Boulaye Dia scored in the first half at Juventus, their first goals in the competition.

Kostas Fortounis is expected to be absent for Olympiakos, while former Lille player Yusuf Yazici is sidelined by a cruciate ligament rupture. Ayoub El Kaabi is also out with a fractured tibia. Armando Gonzalez scored his second Europa League goal against Juventus and is the team’s leading scorer, while Stefan Ortega needed to make only one save for his second clean sheet in the tournament.

Probable line-ups

Rennes: Lemaitre; Ait Boudlal, Cresswell, Rouault; Reynolds, Cisse, Rongier, Camara, Thomasson; Al-Taamari, Mayenda.

Olympiakos: Ortega; Saliakas, Retsos, Pirola, Onyemaechi; Freuler, Hezze; Martins, Chiquinho, Silva; Gonzalez.

Rennes are more compact and defensively reliable at home, and are expected to find a way past an organised Olympiakos side that can adopt a passive approach away from home.
