Real Sociedad Push Umar Sadiq Towards Exit Amid Qatar Interest

The future of Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq at Real Sociedad looks uncertain, with reports suggesting the Spanish club is open to offloading him before the Qatar Stars League transfer window closes later this month, gathered by Nigeriasoccernet.com.

Although Sadiq was assigned a squad number for the 2025/26 season, he has been frozen out of first-team activities at Anoeta and is currently training separately from the squad. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, head coach Sergio Francisco no longer counts on the Super Eagles forward in his plans.

The 27-year-old, who joined Sociedad in 2022 from Almería, suffered a long-term knee injury in his debut season and has since struggled to regain form and consistency. While he returned to action last season, stiff competition from Takefusa Kubo, Sheraldo Becker, and André Silva has further limited his opportunities.

Sociedad’s official stance is that Sadiq is undergoing a tailored fitness programme, but insiders suggest the move is a clear signal for him to seek a new challenge.

Several clubs in Qatar are reportedly monitoring his situation and could move for him before the close of their transfer market. A switch to the Gulf would not only provide Sadiq with guaranteed playing time but also a financially rewarding contract.

For now, Sociedad are ready to sanction his departure if a suitable offer arrives, leaving the striker to decide between staying in Europe to fight for his place or pursuing a fresh start in the Middle East.
