Real Madrid’s Bernabeu strength puts struggling Leipzig under pressure

Published on: 19 October 2026

Real Madrid host RB Leipzig at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, with the Spanish side aiming to maintain their perfect start to this Champions League campaign.

The match begins at 19:00 GMT in Madrid. In France, it will be shown on Canal+ Foot and myCANAL. Coverage is also available on SuperSport Premier League and New World Sport in sub-Saharan Africa, DAZN and Proximus Pickx in Belgium, Blue Sport in Switzerland, Ziggo Sport in the Netherlands, Movistar Liga de Campeones in Spain, Paramount+ and beIN XTRA in the United States, beIN Sports in North Africa, and DAZN in Germany, Italy, Portugal and Austria.

Real Madrid have won two of their four previous meetings with RB Leipzig, alongside one draw and one defeat. The Spanish club also suffered two losses against German opposition last season.

Their most recent encounter ended 1-1 at the Bernabeu on 6 March 2024, after Real Madrid had won 1-0 in Leipzig on 13 February. Leipzig won 3-2 at home on 25 October 2022, while Real Madrid had claimed a 2-0 victory in Madrid on 14 September that year.

Real Madrid enter the fixture in strong form, having won their past three matches in all competitions. They came from behind to beat Roma 4-3 in Europe before recording a convincing 4-1 league victory against Sevilla.

The hosts are unbeaten in Europe this season and have won six consecutive matches at the Bernabeu since Jose Mourinho returned. They will be looking to extend that run before the upcoming Clasico.

Leipzig’s form is considerably less encouraging. Their European campaign has brought one win and one defeat, while they were heavily beaten 6-1 by Bayern Munich in their most recent match.

Martin Demichelis’ side have also lost their past four away matches, conceding 15 goals in the process. Their record in the Champions League is another concern: they have won only two of their past 12 matches in the competition and have failed to win any of their last seven away games in it.

Leipzig are unbeaten in their past three away trips to Spain against LaLiga clubs, having recorded one draw and two defeats. They will need to improve that record if they are to avoid falling further behind in the qualification race.

Real Madrid’s attacking threat and their home form make them clear favourites, while Leipzig’s defensive problems on the road point towards an open contest. Africafoot’s prediction is a 3-1 victory for Real Madrid.

The published match odds list Real Madrid at 1.25 to win, a draw at 6.50 and a Leipzig victory at 10.00.
