RB Leipzig consider Julian Nagelsmann return as Martin Demichelis comes under pressure

RB Leipzig have begun discussing the future of head coach Martin Demichelis after an inconsistent start to the season, with the club reportedly considering a return for former manager Julian Nagelsmann.

Sky Sport reports that Leipzig’s hierarchy still have confidence in the 45-year-old Demichelis, but the first internal debates over his position have taken place following a mixed set of results.

Leipzig have played six official matches so far. They recorded emphatic victories against Trier, winning 6-0, Borussia Monchengladbach, whom they beat 3-0, and Hamburg, in a 5-0 success.

However, those results have been followed by defeats by Werder, Como and Bayer. Leipzig lost 3-1 to Werder, 4-1 to Como and 2-0 to Bayer, leaving them ninth in the league.

The club are now considering Nagelsmann as a possible option. The 39-year-old is currently without a job and previously enjoyed a successful spell in charge of Leipzig.

During his time at the club, Nagelsmann guided the team to the semi-finals of the Champions League and led them to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga. Leipzig averaged 1.94 points per match under his management.
