Rayo Vallecano have been given permission to resume playing at Estadio de Vallecas after Madrid authorities lifted an indefinite suspension imposed on the stadium.
The La Liga club were prevented from using their home ground at the start of the 2026/27 LaLiga season after a report by local authorities identified emergency repair work needed to address safety concerns and other shortcomings.
Rayo rent the stadium from the regional government of Madrid, but their licence was suspended after an audit found serious health and safety problems, as well as an increased risk of fire.
The condition of the ground has also been part of a long-running dispute between supporters and club owner Raul Martin Presa.
However, public health officials in the Spanish capital have now confirmed the stadium can reopen after concluding that its facilities are operational and suitable for normal use.
They said they were “satisfied the facilities are operational and in suitable condition for normal functioning... in a very significant improvement compared to the situation described in the initial audit.”
Rayo have played their first two home fixtures of the campaign at Estadio Butarque, the nearby stadium of Leganes, and have taken four points from those matches.
The lifting of the suspension will not take effect in time for tonight’s match against Espanyol, meaning Rayo will have to play that fixture away from Vallecas.
Their first match back at their home stadium will be against Athletic Club on October 10th.
