Barcelona continued their perfect start to the LaLiga season with a sixth win from six matches, thrashing Racing Santander 7-2 at Camp Nou.
The result was Barcelona’s fifth score of at least five goals in all competitions this season. Racing, promoted to the top flight, remain without a point away from home.
Barcelona had scored 21 goals in their opening five league games, their best total at that stage since 2011, and quickly added to it in the eighth minute.
Joao Cancelo collected a pass from Lamine Yamal, took a touch and curled a superb right-footed shot from 25 yards into the top corner, with the ball clipping the underside of the crossbar on its way in.
Hansi Flick’s side dominated the opening stages. Raphinha was denied by Julen Agirrezabala, Dani Olmo sent an effort wide and Karim Adeyemi lifted a shot over the goalkeeper but just beyond the far post.
Barcelona doubled their advantage midway through the first half when Pedri released Raphinha and was then brought down by Pedro Felipe. Raphinha recovered to take the resulting penalty, sending Agirrezabala the wrong way.
Racing had scored more goals than only the top four teams before this round of matches, but they showed their attacking threat in the 30th minute. Maguette Gueye collected a loose ball on the edge of the area, moved through the defence and finished impressively to make it 2-1.
Barcelona restored their two-goal lead six minutes later. Cancelo struck from about 30 yards and his powerful effort took a deflection that left Agirrezabala unable to reach it.
Raphinha then joined Cancelo in scoring twice before the interval. Rodri, Adeyemi and Olmo combined in a flowing move before finding the Brazilian, who calmly finished for his eighth league goal in six games.
Barcelona were awarded another penalty in the final minute of the half after Pedro Felipe fouled Adeyemi, but Lamine Yamal’s attempt was saved by Agirrezabala.
The rain intensified after the break, as did the chances. Lamine hit the post shortly after Juan Carlos Arana missed a gilt-edged opportunity for Racing.
Wojciech Szczesny replaced the injured Joan Garcia at half-time, but the Polish goalkeeper was caught in possession when Yassir Zabiri pressed him and tapped into an empty net for his sixth goal of the season.
Barcelona responded immediately. Adeyemi won a third penalty after being fouled by Iker Luque Sierra, and Raphinha completed his hat-trick by placing the ball into the bottom corner.
Lamine then had a goal ruled out for offside, but he later supplied Gabriel Jesus, who opened his body and guided in his first league goal for Barcelona with 11 minutes remaining.
Zabiri was denied a second goal by a goal-line clearance late on, before Adeyemi squared for Lamine to complete the scoring.
The result gave Barcelona a ninth consecutive head-to-head win over Racing, who have not beaten them at Camp Nou since 1983.
Raphinha was named Flashscore’s Man of the Match.
