Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are interested in signing Nigerian defender Ryan Alebiosu as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Light Blues are in the market for a new right-back following the departure of James Tavernier at the end of last season.
Alebiosu enjoyed an impressive campaign with Blackburn Rovers after joining the Sky Bet Championship side from Belgian outfit Kortrijk last summer.
The 24-year-old contributed one goal and five assists in 41 Championship appearances for Blackburn, establishing himself as one of the club's standout performers.
According to reports, Blackburn are prepared to sanction the defender's departure this summer for a fee in the region of £3 million to £5 million.
The Nigerian international is also attracting interest from West Ham United and Genoa, with the Serie A side having previously seen an offer rejected during the January transfer window.
Despite competition for his signature, Rangers are reportedly making significant progress in their pursuit of Alebiosu and are expected to reach an agreement with the player on personal terms.
A move to Ibrox would see Alebiosu reunite with fellow Nigerian international Emmanuel Fernandez.
The versatile defender is no stranger to Scottish football, having previously featured in the Scottish Premiership with St Mirren before his move to Blackburn Rovers.
Rangers will now hope to finalise negotiations and secure the services of the highly-rated defender as they continue preparations for the upcoming campaign.
