The race for the final promotion spot to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) reaches its climax today as the Nigeria National League Northern Conference D group concludes, with Ranchers Bees on the verge of making history, Nigeria's leading football website, NigeriaSoccernet.com, understands.
The Kaduna-based side, co-owned by Umar Sadiq, could secure a remarkable promotion to the top flight in their debut NNL campaign after being formed just months ago in late 2025. A draw in their decisive clash at the Pantami Stadium will be enough to confirm their place in the NPFL.
However, such a result would spell relegation for Gombe United, who face the prospect of dropping into the Nationwide League One, Nigeria’s third tier, just a season after competing in the top division.
Meanwhile, Jigawa Golden Stars remain firmly in contention. The Dutse-based club must secure maximum points against Kebbi United to keep their promotion hopes alive. Anything less than victory would end their chances, while their opponents are equally desperate to avoid relegation, setting up a tense and high-stakes encounter.
Heading into the final round, Ranchers Bees lead the standings with 20 points, followed by Jigawa Golden Stars on 18, while Gombe United sit seventh with 12 points and Kebbi United on 13. The permutations are straightforward: a win or draw sends Ranchers Bees up, while Jigawa must win and hope for a slip to snatch promotion at the last moment.
Ahead of the decisive fixtures, Toptier Sports Management CEO, Chichi Nwoko, called for professionalism and sportsmanship across all venues.
“I urge all stakeholders to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship in these final matches. Every team has given its all this season, and I wish them the very best as they chase promotion to the NPFL,” she stated.
“Football will always produce winners and losers, but how we conduct ourselves defines the game. I call on fans across all venues to embody that spirit.”
With promotion, survival, and pride all at stake, the final day promises drama as teams battle to determine who secures a place in the NPFL and who drops down the pyramid.
