Rafa Benitez Warns His Players to Guard Against Complacency After Leeds Win

Published on: 19 November 2016

"?Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has warned his players that they can't afford to get complacent after they moved five points clear at the top of the Championship on Sunday.

Two Dwight Gayle goals were enough to secure the three points for Newcastle against Leeds at Elland Road, in what was their ninth win in a row in all competitions.

Benitez praised the performance but was keen to emphasise that no one should get carried away with the excellent start his side have made.

Rafa Benitez equals Kevin Keegan's 22-year-old record of nine wins in a row. No #nufc manager in history has won 10 in all competitions.

"We have another clean sheet in a very difficult stadium, the performance of the team defending and attacking has been brilliant,"? he told "?Sky Sports.

"It's good and all we have to do is keep doing the same thing, keep playing with the same intensity, no complacency.

"We know that until the end everything can happen, so we have to approach every game the same."

Benitez also commented on the difficult decision of picking between strikers Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

"I have to say it was difficult for me to decide who to play because all of them were coming back and training well. You can see the team is creating chances so to choose one or the other was quite difficult.

"Yes Gayle's goals are important, but at the same time I have to give credit to the rest of the team."?

Newcastle are now nine points clear of third placed Reading, while Leeds slipped to seventh, although just a point off Norwich in sixth.
