Newcastle manager "?Rafa Benitez has hailed his striker Dwight Gayle, and is of the opinion that the 26-year-old can make it into the England squad.

The former Crystal Palace man is the Magpies top scorer in the Championship this season, with 11 goals in 13 appearances. He's certainly in fine form, and Benitez believes that it could carry on into international competition if Gayle is ever called up.

Asked if he could do a job for the Three Lions in an interview with Sky Bet (H/T "?Chronicle Live), Benitez replied: "Yes (I think he can go on to play for England), I think he's an interesting player.

"He has a lot of good things. When you talk about strikers what they have to do is score goals, and he can score even more because he's working hard in training and he is keen to learn.

"When we do finishing training he is always there and keen to improve. I can see him improving and getting better."?

Gayle, who moved from Selhurst Park in a £10m move this summer, is enjoying life at Newcastle. He is particularly pleased with the support from the fans, and is also hoping to help his new side gain promotion back to the top flight at the end of the season.

"The fans here are fantastic," he exclaimed. "Even when you are walking down the street everybody is fully behind you!

"Everybody in the city is pulling in the right direction and that's exactly what we need.

"Hopefully, we can continue to push on and give them what they want - which is promotion back to the Premier League."?
