After securing Cristiano Ronaldo's comeback, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated on Monday that Manchester United must have the will to win the Champions League.
United, who kick off their European season away to Young Boys in Switzerland on Tuesday, last won the competition's top trophy in 2008, when Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the final against Chelsea during his first stay with the club.
United have only reached the quarter-finals twice since Alex Ferguson's transfer to Real Madrid in 2009, as their fortunes deteriorated following his resignation as manager.
Raphael Varane, a four-time Champions League winner at Real Madrid alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, and £73 million ($100 million) winger Jadon Sancho were all signed to improve their prospects of winning the cup as well as domestic titles.
"The aim when we go into this tournament now is to go all the way," said Solskjaer at his pre-match press conference.
"We've added some experience, quality, and youth in the squad and hopefully we are better prepared this year for what is to come."
