According to the Associated Press' Rob Harris and Steve Douglas, South American players whose Premier League teams barred them from traveling and playing in World Cup qualifiers earlier this month are no longer facing a five-day suspension.

Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay have scrapped preparations to use a FIFA provision that would have barred players from the three countries from competing in the Premier League this weekend. Mexico, a member of CONCACAF, likewise relinquished its authority to initiate the regulation.

The possibility of punishment threw Premier League teams for a loop. Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's manager, stated on Friday:

"In the end, the only (ones) who get punished are the players and the clubs - and we have nothing to do with the whole organization around. It's like, 'What is happening?'"

After South America's international window closed on Thursday, the five-day restrictions were due to begin on Friday. Chelsea, Leeds United, Liverpool, Man City, and Man United would have been impacted.
