Former Paris Saint-Germain director of sport Antero Henrique is a target for Newcastle United's new Saudi backers, according to Foot Mercato.

Henrique, who began his career at Porto and worked with Les Parisiens between 2017 and 2019, has made first contact with representatives of the investment group managed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

The club's new owners have told Henrique that they want to develop a team that can compete for the Premier League championship in the future.

The club was purchased for £300 million by a group led by the Saudi Arabian government's sovereign wealth fund on October 7, 2021.

Newcastle became the richest club in the Premier League as a result of the purchase. The club's Non-Executive Chairman is Yassir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of the Public Investment Fund.
