Benjamin Mendy, a Manchester City defender, will stand trial in January on charges of raping two women and sexually abusing a third.
On Friday, during a 45-minute hearing at a court in Chester, northwest England, his trial was set for Jan. 24. Four accusations of rape and one count of sexual assault have been leveled against him.
Mendy, a 27-year-old France international, sat in the dock and listened to proceedings interpreted to him by a French translator. He was not charged, and no pleas were entered during the hearing, which was mostly about administrative procedures before the trial.
The alleged assaults on three separate ladies, one of whom is under the age of 18, are claimed to have taken place at his home address.
On Aug. 26, Mendy was charged with three charges of rape in connection with an alleged event in October, as well as the sexual assault of a lady in early January. He's also accused of raping a lady earlier this month.
Mendy was denied bail last month and is now being held in a Liverpool jail.
Manchester City has placed Mendy on leave pending an inquiry.
