Manager Pep Guardiola wants to bring Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric to Manchester City, according to El Nacional.

Modric is currently committed to Real Madrid until the end of the 2021/22 season and City could move for the 36-year-old Croatia international on a similar short-term deal.

Modric turned 36 on Thursday. But he continues to remain a key player for both club and country. He showed flashes of sheer brilliance while with Croatia at Euro 2020 this summer.

His contract with Real Madrid is set to expire at the end of the campaign. And it seems that he could be offered the chance to move to the Etihad Stadium.

According to El Nacional, both DC United and Inter Miami have made approaches for the midfielder in recent years.

And the report claims that City are now eyeing a move for the end of the season when he will become a free agent.

It is suggested that a move could appeal to Modric, who is keen to play in Major League Soccer at some stage. So joining the Cityzens would pave the way for a future switch to New York City FC.
