In an explosive report a couple of weeks back, sports outlet The Athletic reported that Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was nowhere near to finding an agreement on a contract extension with Liverpool. Now it seems, as reported by English tabloid The Daily Star, that Arsenal are the favorites to sign the England international.
Henderson, who is in his final two years of his contract at Liverpool, could leave the Reds this transfer window, as Liverpool could look to capitalize before his contract expires and/or his value decreases any further. Arsenal seem to be waiting to pounce on the opportunity to bring Arteta such an experienced midfielder, who would certainly help the Gunners in their quest to relevance in the Premier League. Arsenal was rumored to be going after Sassuolo and Italy standout Manuel Locatelli, but the player seems to prefer Juventus and has turned down Arsenal's offer, apparently. The London side now looks at the Henderson situation with interest as another option for their midfield.
We'll see whether Henderson becomes a Gunner or chooses to remain at Liverpool amidst contract extension controversy.
