Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty.

After missing the Swiss international's friendly win over Greece in preparation for this week's 2022 World Cup qualifiers, it was subsequently disclosed (via Blick) that he had turned down the option to get the first dosage of the vaccine.

While the Arsenal player will miss his country's forthcoming games against Italy and Northern Ireland as they attempt to continue on their remarkable run to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals, he uploaded an Instagram update with the caption "Excited about the challenges ahead" and a snapshot of him in training.

Jose Mourinho, the manager of Roma, who was interested in bringing the controversial midfielder to the Italian capital during the summer transfer window, subsequently responded and advised the player to be vaccinated.

"'Get the jab Granit and be safe", wrote Jose Mourinho.
