FIFA President Gianni Infantino has demanded that all players be released for World Cup qualifiers and has asked British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to lift quarantine requirements for footballers so that they can travel to play for their countries next week.
The Premier League defied FIFA on Tuesday by deciding not to release nearly 60 players from 19 clubs for qualifiers next week.
"I have written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and appealed for the necessary support, in particular, so players are not deprived of the opportunity of representing their countries in qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup, which is one of the ultimate honors for a professional footballer," Infantino said in a statement on Wednesday.
