According to Globo Esporte, the presence of Pablo Mari in Arsenal's season-opening loss to Brentford last night necessitated the payment of another transfer add-on.
Flamengo is owed another €1 million, according to the Brazilian publication, when Mari made his 20th appearance for Arsenal yesterday night.
Mari joined Arsenal on a loan agreement in January 2020, although he only made three appearances during his loan period, which was enough to persuade Arsenal to make the transfer permanent.
As Jamie Carragher pointed out, the Gunners were 'bullied', and Mari joined the rest of the Arsenal defensive line in looking totally ashamed for their involvement in the second Brentford goal.
Despite being sandwiched between Mari and Chambers, the Spaniard was unable to fight Ivan Toney, who won a near-post flick on to tee up the goal that sealed a stunning Brentford victory.
Flamengo received a €8 million fee from the transfer, paid in two installments of €3 million and €5 million, according to Globo, but the contract also contains a €1 million incentive for every 10 appearances Mari makes, up to an overall bonus of €8 million.
