Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar tried to bring Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez to the club during the summer transfer window. The north Londoners were touted to snap up a high-profile striker in the summer, and they were strongly linked with a move for Martinez.

However, a transfer never materialised in the end. It is now claimed by The Athletic that there was an Arsenal approach made. The Gunners were poised to lure him to England, but the Nerazzurri refused to entertain any offers for the Argentine ace.

After selling striker Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea for €115 million, they made it clear that Martinez will not be departing for any price in the window. His current deal with the Serie A giants expires in two years time. Discussions are underway over a fresh bumper contract.
