Player trafficking and exploitation: CAF launches ‘’Protect The Dream’’ campaign

Published on: 30 September 2024

In a bid to curb player trafficking and exploitation around the continent, the African football governing body, CAF has launched the ‘’Protect The Dream’’ campaign, marking a decisive step in the body's commitment to players' safety and protection as Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

As well as being able to chase and nurture their dreams in an enabling and secure environment, the increasing exploitation of young African talent has made CAF bring out these preventive measures to safeguard the well-being of African footballers across the globe.

Launched at the recent CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals in Zanzibar, the "ProtectTheDream" campaign will be led by African football icons Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo), Amanda Dlamini (South Africa), and Daniel Amokachi (Nigeria), among others. These legends will collaborate with CAF to raise awareness about the fight against player trafficking.

"ProtectTheDream" is part of a series of initiatives by CAF aimed at creating a safe and supportive environment for young African football talent to flourish.

Earlier this year, CAF teamed up with Mission 89, a globally recognized organization focused on research, education, and advocacy against the exploitation of young athletes.

This partnership facilitated Safeguarding and Anti-Player Trafficking workshops for all 54 CAF Member Associations and Zonal Unions.
