Ex Asante Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani says Ghanaian clubs are unable to favourably compete in CAF Inter-club competitions due to the alarming rate of player exodus.
Dramani himself eventually became a victim of the syndrome of the poor performance of Ghanaian clubs in Africa after failing twice with Kotoko to achieve a target of making it into the group stage.
Hearts of Oak are currently the only Ghanaian club left in Africa this season as they come up against Malian club AC Djoliba on Sunday with a comfortable 2-1 advantage secured in the first leg encounter.
But Ghanaian clubs have generally been woeful against their peers in either the CAF Champions League or the Confederation Cup.
But ex Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani says the poor performance of Ghanaian clubs in Africa is as a result of the immense number of players leaving for greener pastures on a regular basis.
“When we keep losing materials, consistency does not come to work,” he told Ultimate FM.
“If we were lucky to have the players who left [to clubs abroad] last season still in the country, our game would have really moved up.
“Look at Seidu Bancy and Abdul Aziz Yussif, they left to Egypt but now I think they have terminated their contract and are back to the country. These were instrumental players
“Hearts of Oak were lucky to have Edmund Copson, Adjah Tetteh, Dan Quaye, Amankwa Mireku, Osmanu Amadu, and Ishmael Addo together for a long time.
“Continuously Ishmael Addo won the Ghana league for three years. He played in Africa for about three years. In the third year he came up strongly.
“So what is it he will not know about the Africa terrain? But today it’s never so. You cannot blame the management and coaches for the low quality.”
