José Peseiro's tenure as Zamalek head coach began with a 1-1 draw against Petrojet at the Al-Salam Stadium on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Portuguese tactician, appointed on Friday, saw his side take the lead in stoppage time through Mostafa El Gamal's strike.
However, Petrojet equalised just a minute later when Ahmed Mawgod scored an own goal, denying Peseiro a winning start.
The result leaves Zamalek three points adrift of league leaders Al Ahly, whom they will face next weekend.
Peseiro, former head coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, will be seeking his first win in charge of Zamalek when they travel to Al Ahly.
