The world was left stunned in the early hours of Saturday morning when it was announced that Muhammad Ali had passed away at the age of 74 and Pele has penned a touching tribute.
Ali is the most iconic boxer of all-time as he repeatedly defied the odds and blasted away his competitors inside the ring.
The sporting great, who had suffered from Parkinsons' disease for 32 years, was admitted into hospital with a respiratory problem on Monday and he passed away four days later surrounded by family in Phoenix, Arizona.
Ali and Pele were both at the pinnacle of their respective sports at the same time back in the 60s' and 70s' and their paths frequently crossed which enabled them to craft a lasting friendship.
Pele, who won three World Cups with Brazil, is currently in Manchester to mark the 25th anniversary of the charity Human Appeal and he took the opportunity to pay a heartfelt tribute to his dear friend.
"He used to say he was my brother" the 75-year-old told"? reporters. "We had many opportunities to be together in time... we worked together for children in Unicef.
"He once told me 'football is more beautiful than boxing, but I am more beautiful than you.'
"I saw him last year. We went to his house, we did an interview for a hospital in Brazil - a children's hospital I work for."

"Muhammad Ali was my friend, my idol, my hero. We spent many moments together and always kept a good connection throughout the years. The sadness is overwhelming. I wish him peace with God. And I send love and strength to his family."
