Paul Gascoigne Taken to Hospital With Head Wound After Being 'Kicked Down Stairs' in Hotel Incident

Published on: 28 December 2016

Former England international Paul Gascoigne has been taken to hospital with a head wound following a row with other guests at a London hotel which led to him being 'kicked down the stairs'"?.

Gascoigne's spokesman, Terry Baker, confirmed he had been hospitalised after the incident - which took place on Tuesday night at the Ace Hotel in east London. Gascoigne, who has a storied history of alcohol addiction, was reported to be 'causing trouble' by a witness, who publicised the story with a series of tweets as the incident unfolded.

This may be 1 of the weirdest tweets I've sent:I'm in Ace Hotel trying to read but can't because Paul Gascoigne is behind me causing trouble

It gets crazier: Gazza has just been kicked down the stairs by a guy whose friend got slapped by him. He really isn't in a good place.

The police have arrived. I think they're sorting things out. #Gazza pic.twitter.com/Ry0BsCt1bm

@SoniaRothwell he's very drunk. So drunk he's drooling.

There have long been concerns over the 49-year-old's health and Gascoigne has had a series of run-ins with the law in recent years. A police spokesman said regarding this incident, however, said: "Police were called at 18:05 hrs on Tuesday, 27 December to reports of a disturbance at a hotel on Shoreditch High Street, E1.

"Officers were called a short time later to reports of a man assaulted at the same location. Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. A 49-year-old man was found suffering from a head injury.

"The man has been taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a stable condition. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue."?

Gascoigne retired from football in 2005 after 57 appearances for England, and time spent at Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Middlesbrough at club level.
