Paris FC forward Lassine Sinayoko scored after only 23 seconds against Olympique de Marseille on Sunday, giving the visitors the fastest Ligue 1 goal Marseille have conceded since Opta began collecting data in the 2006-07 season.
The early strike stunned the crowd at the Velodrome and immediately changed the tone of the match. Marseille had barely begun to settle when Paris FC produced an impressive team move, allowing Sinayoko to finish from an ideal position and put the visitors ahead.
The goal was the product of an aggressive opening from Paris FC, who committed players forward from the first attack. Marseille, meanwhile, were caught cold and were unable to establish their shape before the visitors found a way through.
For Sinayoko, the finish represented an important individual moment. For Paris FC, it underlined the effectiveness of their approach in the opening stages, with the side taking immediate advantage of space in the Marseille defensive structure.
The goal also secured a place in Olympique de Marseille’s statistical history. According to Opta, no Ligue 1 opponent had scored earlier against the club since the start of the data collection period in 2006-07.
The speed of the breakthrough made the start particularly damaging for Marseille. Within less than a minute, Paris FC had exposed an opening, advanced quickly into the final third and punished the home side with their first clear opportunity.
Sinayoko’s effort was not, however, the fastest Ligue 1 goal recorded during that period. That distinction remains with Wissam Ben Yedder, who scored for AS Monaco after 21 seconds against Olympique Lyonnais in April 2024.
Only two seconds separated Ben Yedder’s goal from Sinayoko’s effort against Marseille. While Sinayoko narrowly missed out on the league record, his goal still set a new unwanted mark for Olympique de Marseille in the Opta era.
The strike therefore carried significance beyond the immediate scoreline. It was the earliest goal Marseille had conceded in Ligue 1 since Opta’s records began, as well as a dramatic reward for a Paris FC side that started the contest with intent and precision.
For the hosts, the challenge was made more difficult by the circumstances of the goal. The players had scarcely had time to find their positions or establish their rhythm before Paris FC’s combination play created the opening that Sinayoko converted.
The 23-second finish ensured that the Velodrome witnessed one of the most abrupt starts in Marseille’s recent Ligue 1 history, while allowing Sinayoko to become the player associated with that record-breaking moment.
