Paris 2024: Waldrum confident of Super Falcons' chances at Olympics

Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum remains optimistic about his team's prospects at the 2024 Olympic Games, despite being drawn in a challenging, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Nigeria is Group C alongside Brazil, Japan, and reigning world champions Spain.

Waldrum unveiled his squad for the women's football event on Wednesday, and drew inspiration from the team's impressive performance at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers, where they emerged from a tough group featuring Olympic champions Canada and Australia.

"I think this one could be a special group," Waldrum told ESPN. "We've shown our quality against some of the best teams in the world at the World Cup, and hopefully, we'll do the same at the Olympics."

The Super Falcons will face Brazil in their opening match at the Stade Bordeaux on July 25, followed by encounters with Spain on July 28 and Japan on July 31, with the latter two matches taking place at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes.

Despite the daunting task ahead, Waldrum believes his players have the potential to replicate their World Cup heroics and make a significant impact at the Olympics.
