In a heated match full of suspense and surprises, it is Pachuca who escapes the Azteca with a ticket to the semifinals. America came very close to completing the comeback, but the 4-2 scoreline saw Los Tuzos advance and leave a bitter taste in Las Aguilas' mouths.

It was Pachuca's Romario Ibarra who opened the scoring early in the 4th minute, a goal that would force America to win by 3 if they wanted to survive and advance. Los Azuelcremas did not desist however, and found an equalizer through a Roger Martinez penalty. America's hopes were rekindled when Luis Fuentes put them ahead on the scoreboard in the 26th minute and only needing one more goal in the aggregate without conceding to complete the comeback. Las Aguilas' wishes seemed to come true in the 53' when Roger Martinez put them up 3-1, but a penalty for a hand ball in the box gave Pachuca that all-important second goal that now forced America to score twice if they wanted to advance. They managed a goal thanks to a Leonardo Suarez free kick in the 70th minute, but it wasn't enough for them to advance
