“Tonight was emotional for me as I struggled to hold back my tears. Seeing this show of love from Galatasaray fans honestly is something I will never forget for the rest of my life,” Osimhen wrote.
“From the first day I arrived, you welcomed me with so much love and respect, not only me but also my family and the people close to me.
“Moments like this remind me that football is bigger than just the game. It is love, loyalty, and unity.
“I promise to continue fighting for this badge, this club, and these amazing fans with everything I have every time I step on this pitch. Thank you for making tonight unforgettable. We are family.”
Before kickoff at RAMS Park, Galatasaray supporters unveiled a large tifo banner featuring Osimhen alongside his late mother, accompanied by the message: “We are a family and family is everything.” The tribute sparked an emotional reaction from the striker as chants echoed around the stadium.
Galatasaray went on to secure a crucial 1–0 victory over Liverpool, with Mario Lemina scoring the decisive goal early in the first half to give the Turkish champions a slender advantage ahead of the return leg at Anfield.
The emotional night in Istanbul came during a remarkable European campaign for Osimhen, who recently set a new record for the most goal involvements by a Nigerian player in a single Champions League season.
The bond between the striker and Galatasaray’s passionate supporters appears stronger than ever as the Yellow-Reds continue their push for a place in the quarter-finals.
