Udinese Calcio technical director Gökhan Inler has revealed that Maduka Okoye has always harboured ambitions of playing at the highest level, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Inler made the remarks following the goalkeeper’s impressive display for the Super Eagles during the recent four-nation tournament, particularly in the clash against Iran national football team.
Speaking with Tutto Mercato Web, the former Swiss international explained that the club’s coaching staff have been working closely with Okoye to help him improve consistently at both club and international level.
“We are working closely together; a goalkeeper like him must always play at a very high level,” Inler said.
He emphasized the importance of regular communication and individual attention in the player’s development, noting that Okoye is gradually maturing and understanding the demands placed on him.
“It’s important to give him confidence. He has to contribute more in terms of communication, and he is slowly growing. He’s also gone to the national team and knows he must prove himself in every game,” he added.
Inler further stated that he closely monitors the Nigerian’s progress and is ready to step in whenever necessary to guide his development, as Udinese aim to finish the season strongly.
