In a tweet that appeared on the club Twitter account, Marseille officially confirmed they have signed defender William Saliba on loan from Arsenal.

Saliba has been with the Gunners since 2019, who signed him to a 5 year deal worth 27M GBP; however, he has not made his debut with them yet, having spent the last two seasons on loan at Saint-Etienne and Nice, where he left a positive impression, appearing in 21 games for them and scoring 1 goal.

Saliba is just 20 years of age, so it is understandable if Arsenal want him to grow before adding him to their squad, and Marseille represents a new challenge for the defender, maybe the last step before he's able to stay at the London club for good.  Arsenal technical director stated the Gunners intentions when he declared that:

"William is a player with strong natural ability and next season has the potential to be really beneficial for him at Marseille, a good club. To play another season in Ligue 1 will be very important for his development. We will of course be keeping in close contact with William during the season and wish him all the best in France with Marseille."
