As announced by British sports broadcaster Sky Sports and on the club's channels, Southampton have officially signed striker Adam Armstrong.
The move comes after target man Danny Ings departed for Aston Villa, and was anticipated by multiple reports last week. Armstrong comes in after having a very prolific season in the Championship last year, having scored 29 goals for Blackburn. He signs a four-year deal with the Saints, a contract that will see him with the club until 2025.
Southampton skipper Ralph Hasenhüttl said: “Adam was a big target for us this summer, so we are very pleased to have added him to the squad, especially as there was a lot of interest in him from other clubs too. He is at a good stage of his career for him to be coming here. He is a young, dynamic player who has developed well so far and already has good experience, as well as an impressive goalscoring record, and I believe we can now help him realise even more of his potential...He will bring a lot of qualities to our team, and he gives us another good option in attack, which will be important for us.”
We will see whether Armstrong will be able to properly replace Ings' production at Southampton, but if last season is any indication, Saints fans should feel comfortable.
Here he is! ?#SaintsFC is delighted to confirm the signing of striker @AdamArma9 on a four-year deal from @Rovers:
