Sampdoria made a last-minute move for Francesco Caputo on Tuesday, signing the Italy striker from Sassuolo just minutes before the country's transfer market closed.
Caputo has swapped teams on a season-long loan with an obligation to purchase, Sassuolo stated in a statement, with the summer window in Italy shutting at 1800 GMT (2 p.m. ET).
According to Italian media, Samp will have to pay €3.5 million ($4.1 million) to finalize the Caputo purchase.
Last season, the 34-year-old scored 11 times in 25 Serie A games after scoring 21 times the season before.
He has two Italy caps, scoring his sole goal for the national team in a friendly against Moldova in 2020.
