Nwabali Doubtful for Nigeria’s World Cup Qualifiers After Injury Scare

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali faces a major injury concern ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.

The 29-year-old was stretchered off in the 35th minute during Chippa United’s PSL clash with Richards Bay on Tuesday night, sparking fears he could miss the international fixtures.

Nwabali, who has been Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper since his standout performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, was recently named in head coach Eric Chelle’s 31-man provisional squad for the September qualifiers.

Should he be ruled out, the responsibility may fall to one of Adebayo Adeleye, Amas Obasogie, or Ebenezer Harcourt, who were also included in the squad.

The Super Eagles will open camp in Uyo next week ahead of their home clash against Rwanda on Saturday, September 6, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. They will then travel to face Bafana Bafana in Johannesburg four days later.
