Nigeria's women U-17 earned their first win of the National Sports Festival football event after edging former Nigeria Women Football League champions, Delta Queens, on Tuesday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Flamingos beat Delta Queens 1-0 courtesy of a second half goal from Jumai Adebayo at the Babcock University pitch, Ilishan, Remo.
A well-struck kick by Adebayo from outside the box caught the Delta Queens goalkeeper snapping in the 50th to make it 1-0.
The lead was held on to as the U-17 side secured their first in the competition, going on in Ogun State after playing a goalless draw in their opening match of the National Sports Festival against Abia Angels.
Flamingos are representing the Integrated Junior Athletes (IJA) at the Gateway Games and are using the Sport Festival to prepare for this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
