NPFL'23: Southwest derby end in stalemate as Bayelsa United win two in a row

Not the only derby of the weekend but the Southwest derby was the most followed, pronounced and talked about as Shooting Stars welcomed Remo Stars to the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba Ibadan, can report.

As expected, the rivalry between the two teams goes beyond the 22 soldiers on the pitch with fans of both sides always fighting their own battle with the trumpets, drums and all kinds of musical instruments right before the blast of the whistle till the end.

The banters thrown at each other before, during and after the games by the fans makes it one of the most interesting derbies in the country and that was not lacking on Sunday as Remo Stars went head to head and neck to neck with Shooting Stars in their group A match day 13 encounter.

Shooting Stars got the lead as early as the 9th minutes through the boot of Agbekpornu. The goal threw the home fans into wild jubilation.

Even the players and the coach crewing of the host could not contain their joy.

On the 70th minute, Okon leveled up for Remo Stars.

Both teams searched for the winner but no more goal was accounted for as they settled for a 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere, Gombe United edged El-Kanemi Warriors by a lone goal in the North East derby.

On Saturday, Bendel Insurance played their 4th straight draw as held Kwara United to a 1-1 draw.

Bayelsa United were the only team to win away this weekend as they secured a 2-1 victory over Wikki Tourists far away in the North.

Same Saturday, Dakkada FC ended their 4 games winless run, beating Doma United by a lone goal.
