NPFL Top Scorer Obaje Snubs Enyimba, IfeanyiUbah, Heartland

Nigeria Professional Football League leading scorer, Godwin Obaje, has turned down mid-season transfer approaches from several of the big clubs in the league.

Obaje currently plies his trade with leaders Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.

Complete Sports understands that such clubs include defending champions Enyimba, big spenders FC Ifeanyiubah, and Heartland of Owerri.

It was gathered that the trio made approaches to the 13-goal scorer in the first stanza of the league to part company with the Bauchi outfit in the on-going mid-season transfer window.

Enyimba, who are looking for quality players to fill their registration quota ahead their CAF Champions League group phase clashes with Zamalek of Egypt, Setif of Algeria and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, approached the marksman for a deal which the player politely turned down.

“It was the same when FC Ifeanyiubah and Heartland approached him,” Abbas Gungura, image maker of Wikki Tourists, told Complete Sports.

“We’re lucky that Obaje has the love for Wikki Tourists and wants to win trophies with us hence he declined to leave and instead restated his commitment to Wikki Tourists.

“If not, we would not have been able to hold him back because, naturally, when a player makes up his mind to leave, it is absolutely difficult to hold him back, more so when it involves overtures from big and rich clubs like FC Ifeanyiubah and Enyimba.”

Wikki Tourists are top on the Premier League table on goals difference with Rivers United.
