NPFL: Sunday of draws as league enter week 2

Published on: 16 September 2024

The 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season witnessed an unusual turn of events on Sunday with 4 of the 5 games played ending in a draw, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

It was a big weekend entirely for the league as only two victories were recorded in 7 games played between Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Remo Stars edged Sunshine Stars in the first Southwest derby of the season by a lone goal. Rivers United also defeated Heartland FC 3-1.

On Sunday, it was a different thing entirely as 4 games ended in a draw, leaving us with only a win for the day. Kastina United was the only winner on Sunday as they defeated Bendel Insurance in a hard-fought battle at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium 2-1.

Akwa United was held to a 1-1 draw at home by Abia Warriors. The same scoreline was recorded in the game between Bayelsa United and Kano Pillars played at the Sanson SiaSia stadium in Yenagoa.

It ended 1-1 in the late kick-off game at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasigba between Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Plateau United, as Niger Tornadoes and Nasarawa United fired blank at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna.

Three games were postponed. Two due to the continental engagement of some of the teams involved and one due to a flood in the state scheduled to host the game.
