NPFL Review: Obi says no charge against Ubah

Heartland goalkeeper, Ebele Obi has dissociated himself from the purported lawsuit against the club owner of FC IfeanyiUbah, Ifeanyi Ubah.

The players umbrella body, the National Association of Nigerian Footballers (NANF) is said to have instituted a lawsuit against the oil magnet following an unprovoked attack on former Enugu Rangers shot stopper after the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 8 clash between hosts, FC IfeanyiUbah and oriental neighbours, Heartland in Nnewi.

The business mogul was handed a 10-match ban and N2.5million fine by LMC for his sordid role in the fracas.

Obi said he consulted widely with his family after the ugly incident but decided to move on with his football career.

“In as much as I detested the barbaric action of Ifeanyi Ubah and his thugs against me I and my family have decided to painfully move on with our lives.

“It was a sad episode in my life but after a family meeting I was advised by my family not to press for charges against the proprietor of FC IfeanyiUbah, Ifeanyi Ubah.

“I’m rather excited to be back to football action after serving off the six-match suspension imposed on me by the League Management Company (LMC).

“I just want to concentrate on giving my very best to the Naze Millionaires in the ongoing top flight,” said former Enugu Rangers goaltender to supersport.com.

Obi was a star performer in the side’s heart-warming goalless draw at former champions, Kano Pillars in Sunday’s NPFL matchday 17 clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

The experienced goalie is expected to be in-between the post for Heartland in the midweek top flight matchday 18 clash against newcomers, Plateau United at the Dan Anyian Stadium in Owerri.
