Newbies Ikorodu City continued their blistering form in the Nigeria Premier Football League with an emphatic victory over 2021 champions on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Two goals in each half gave the Oga Boys a 4-1 thumping of the Promise Keepers at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan.

The hosts got into the scheme of things quickly as Tosin Oyedokun opened the score just 3 minutes after the start of the game, getting his first goal of the NPFL from Salau Yusuf's assist.

The visitors equalized on 35 minutes of the game after Chijioke Alaekwe received a precise pass from Etim Charles and calmly sent a curling effort into the top corner.

However, Emmanuel Solomon made sure Ikorodu went into the lead at halftime with a fantastic effort after a chest-down pass from Tosin Oyedokun.

Olatunji Abdulmalik wasted no time to double the lead with his first NPFL goal a minute into the second half.

Ayomide Cole scored in the 71 minutes to put the game beyond Akwa United and score his second consecutive goal courtesy of Olatunji Abdulmalik's assist to make it 4-1.

The win takes the Lagos-based side to third position on the log after 15 matches.
