Published on: 09 January 2023

Bendel Insurance Coach, Monday Odigie has stated that the 2-0 result achieved at the Nest of Champions on Sunday doesn't suggest that they were better on the day.

In a shocking end, the Edo Arsenals had triumphed over the 2021 champions of the league in the first match of the NPFL 2022/2023 season.

Late first half goals by Imade Osehenkhoe and Ismael Seriki had given the Benin side who were returning to Nigeria's top flight football after three years and some months the win.

Nevertheless, Odigie his of the opinion that they had been lucky as Akwa United were the better side on the day.

"NPFL is a big and tough league. Irrespective of the result in our favour, we are going back to work on our weakness and strengthen the boys mentally.

Akwa Utd were more tactical and experienced. Fate just smiled on us” He said.

The newly promoted side have the first three points of the season and Odigie and his team will seek to consolidate on this early momentum to end well in group A of the abridged league at the end of the season.
